Turkey in May: Coastal Weather, Sea and Where to Go
May suits a mixed coastal trip: beach time when conditions appeal, with enough flexibility for towns and historical sites. It is particularly important to separate warm air from water comfort and to check whether a hotel’s seasonal programme is fully running.
Weather: Antalya as a defined coastal reference
MGM’s Antalya observations for 1930–2025 give a May average daily high of 25.7°C, an average daily low of 15.3°C and average monthly rainfall of 33.3 mm. These are historical air and rainfall statistics for Antalya. They are not a forecast, sea temperatures or a weather table for the whole of Turkey.

Choose May for the whole itinerary
If your plan includes Antalya’s old town, Side’s ancient centre or time outside the hotel, May is worth comparing with midsummer. The Antalya historical series has a lower average high than July and August, but a monthly average is not a heat limit.
Choose Side for a trip where ancient-town time is part of the brief, or Antalya for a city-and-coast combination. Compare your hotel’s actual location before assuming those outings will be walkable.
Budget for a swimming fallback if needed
May sea swimming is a personal comfort decision. The water guide provides historical context, but it cannot guarantee your beach or travel week. If the children expect to swim daily, ask about pool heating and access before paying.
Some heating programmes cover winter dates only. Read the heated-pool checklist and ask for confirmation for May specifically. Do not equate a warm-looking pool photograph with a heated pool.
A balanced May week
Keep two or three days centred on the hotel and local beach, choose one main cultural outing and leave the remaining days flexible. This allows you to move the outing when the forecast changes without losing prepaid activities.
For value, compare your exact dates against nearby weeks with the same room, meals and transfer. If autumn is also possible, read May versus October: similar air averages do not make them identical swimming or operating seasons.
Compare neighbouring months
If your dates are flexible, compare April and June. Keep the same departure airport, stay length, board basis and room type in your price comparison. A different package is not evidence that one month is always cheaper.
