Turkey in January: Coastal Weather, Sea and Where to Go
January on Turkey’s coast works best as a town break with weather-dependent outdoor time. Choose somewhere you would enjoy without using an outdoor pool. This guide covers coastal holidays; it does not describe Istanbul, inland cities or ski resorts.
Weather: Antalya as a defined coastal reference
MGM’s Antalya observations for 1930–2025 give a January average daily high of 15.0°C, an average daily low of 6.1°C and average monthly rainfall of 225.5 mm. These are historical air and rainfall statistics for Antalya. They are not a forecast, sea temperatures or a weather table for the whole of Turkey.

Put the town before the beach
For a first winter coastal break, start with Antalya. Kaleiçi and the harbour give the trip a town focus, while your hotel choice can put restaurants and indoor space within easy reach. Verify current attraction hours and transport rather than building the trip around a summer excursion list.
A remote beach hotel can still work if you want to stay inside the property. Its value depends on the winter programme: which restaurants, lounges, pools and activities operate, and which are merely visible in the annual brochure.
Do not make the sea the daily promise

If a swim matters every day, ask about an indoor heated pool, access hours and age restrictions. Confirm the actual pool rather than accepting “spa available” as an answer.
A flexible three-day outline
Use the first dry window for a short Kaleiçi and harbour walk. Give the second day to one pre-checked attraction, leaving the order flexible. Keep the third day for a return visit, a relaxed meal or a hotel day. Do not reserve every outdoor activity to a non-refundable time slot before seeing the forecast.
Pack a rain layer, shoes you can walk in on wet surfaces and clothing for cool evenings. Choose a room with confirmed heating. A balcony is a bonus when the weather cooperates; useful indoor space earns its place every day.
Compare neighbouring months
If your dates are flexible, compare December and February. Keep the same departure airport, stay length, board basis and room type in your price comparison. A different package is not evidence that one month is always cheaper.
